The unit gets all the attention, but the hardware around it decides whether the install looks right in year one and still works in year fifteen. The supporting cast, piece by piece.
The line set
Two insulated copper lines carry refrigerant between the indoor head and the outdoor unit. NG system kits ship with a standard line set; the what's-in-the-box list on each product page shows exactly what's included. Two things matter: the run length between indoor and outdoor units has to stay within the unit's allowed range, and the connections are refrigerant work, which is a job for a certified installer, not a weekend project.
Something to stand on: pad or bracket
The outdoor unit needs a stable, level base that keeps it out of dirt and standing water.
- Ground pad. The ArmorPad Aircore is an 18 by 38 inch composite pad, 3 inches tall, rated to hold 900 pounds. It spreads the load, stays level, and won't rot. Right answer for ground-level installs with a reasonable spot near the wall.
- Wall bracket. The TB-122B steel bracket lifts the condenser off the ground entirely. That's the move where snow piles up, where yard space is tight, or where flood-prone ground rules out a pad. Check the weight of your outdoor unit against the bracket rating before ordering.
Line set covers
Without them, the refrigerant lines run down your exterior wall wrapped in black foam. The HL100 cover kit is a paintable PVC channel, UV-resistant, that encloses the lines in a clean white chase. Purely cosmetic, and the single cheapest thing you can do to make an install look professional from the curb.
The electrical side
Plan for a disconnect box within sight of the outdoor unit, a properly sized circuit, and a condensate drain path for the indoor head. Your installer or electrician handles all three; the point of listing them is so the quote doesn't surprise you.
Who should install it
Refrigerant connections, vacuum pull, and charging require EPA certification, and modern refrigerants are only handled by techs equipped for them. Mounting a bracket is carpentry; commissioning the system is not. Budget for a professional install and the equipment warranty stays intact.
